If you are worried about the possibility of your teeth becoming discolored, and you would like to ensure they remain as white as possible, there are a few ways you can accomplish this endeavor. Many people will head to their dentist to find out about whitening procedures at the first signs of staining. A dentist will do an assessment of the teeth and make recommendations regarding whitening procedures if necessary. There are also a few steps you can take in the comfort of your home to help in keeping the teeth white. Try some of the following tips to see if your teeth appear brighter.

Use Fruit To Wipe Away Surface Stains

Some people find that using the interior peel of a banana or orange to wipe against the teeth is an effective measure in removing staining agents from their surfaces. This is a quick fix that you can incorporate into your daily routine, and you will have the benefit in eating the fruit as well! A strawberry can also be used as a stain remover. Simply mash up a strawberry with help from a fork and place the pulp directly on the teeth you want to whiten. Leave the fruit on your teeth for several minutes, as you tilt your head backward.

Avoid Drinking Items Known To Stain

Do your best to avoid drinking liquids that cause staining. This includes coffee, tea, and red wine. If you do wish to indulge in one of these beverages, use a straw so the liquid does not touch your teeth as easily as you consume it. You can then brush your teeth immediately after you are finished it to remove any remnants that may have made their way to your teeth.

Try Using Baking Soda And Peroxide

Baking soda works well at removing surface stains from the teeth. You can make your own homemade toothpaste from equal parts of baking soda and water. Mix this well inside a bowl and dip your toothbrush inside and apply. It is best to avoid using this paste for more than a minute or so. It is also best to use this method of whitening the teeth only a few times a month. Baking soda tends to cause enamel to wear because of its abrasiveness, possibly causing tooth sensitivity issues as a result if it is used too often. Hydrogen peroxide also works well at removing stains from teeth. Use this in the same manner as mouthwash to brighten teeth instantly.
